Please light a flame for peace on Sept 21st - 26-7-2006

This week I’d like to introduce Sheila Roberts to you – she is a great friend to us in North Wales and is probably one of the World Peace Flame’s biggest fans! She wanted to write to you this week…

best wishes,

Jane Clapham

Dear Friends

I have been thinking about ways in which we can respond to some of the challenging events that are happening in our world at the moment. One idea involves the World Peace Flame, (which is one of my great inspirations!!) It’s quite a big task, as you will see …

My dream is to find someone in every country in the world and ask them to light a World Peace Flame on 21st September, the International Day of Peace of the UN.

Can you help? If you have friends who would support this peace initiative, especially those who live in countries which are difficult to reach, please would you contact them and ask them to send me their postal address. I will then send them a WPF candle, along with very simple suggestions as to when and how to light it.

They can contact me at email: sheilar108@tiscali.co.uk

I am very grateful for all assistance. Thank you! Sheila Roberts

Another idea of how we can bring healing to the Middle East and all the conflict zones in our world is given below. Perhaps you would like to join us in this daily meditation.

Meditation for peace

1) Relax for a few minutes and focus on your breathing, watching the natural rhythm of each inhalation and exhalation.

2) Imagine a situation that needs healing. Place an image of the situation in front of you at heart level, as if it were on a video screen.

3) As you breathe in, draw some of the disharmony from the situation into your heart and immediately send it upwards and out of your crown as you breathe out.

4) Feel this disharmony entering a beautiful golden cloud above you. Visualise all of it turning into light within the cloud.

5) On an in-breath, draw this light into your heart and breathe it out into the scene in front of you, bringing peace, ease and smiles to everyone there.

6) Repeat steps 2-5 until you feel the situation has been healed.

The World Peace Flame was created in July 1999 when seven live flames, lit by prominent peacemakers on five continents, were flown across the oceans by military air forces and commercial airlines and united into one eternal Flame.

It is being installed in monuments around the world and presented to world leaders. It has opened events such as the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Cape Town and Barcelona, the G8 Summit in Okinawa, Japan, Cinema for Peace at the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Earth Champions environmental awards in Switzerland. The World Peace Flame has united Ambassadors from every single country in the world, who have come together to endorse a joint statement for Peace. It is also passed from friend to friend and is lit by thousands daily as a dedication to peace.

All of us who share this beautiful planet are aware of the power of light. We have all experienced the deep sense of renewal and joy that comes to us on the rays of the morning sun. The World Peace Flame is a new sun spreading its rays across the earth.
